The Border Guard was within his jurisdiction to ask those questions. The Canadian man that was with his wife was provoking the guards and shooting his mouth off. You can tell the Canadian man was wrong when at the end he wasn’t talking so tough when he heard that he and his were going to be arrested. I am not sure how they detained his wife, and that would remain to be seen if she was treated properly. Clearly the Canadian man realized at the end that he said one word too many. He was out to start an argument.
@Chad Fallon
Agree, but I’d say there was quite a bit of provoking going on by the border agents as well. But I agree the Canadian man was in dishonor first and/or did not remedy the situation and bring himself into honor quickly enough but both sides escalated the dishonor. Where he really screwed up was (it sounds like) when he was provoking the agent “what you gonna do about it?”, etc. But the entire thing is still disturbing. This all started with the absurd question of “what stores are you shopping at?” and they were arrested because they asked questions back NOT because they were terrorists or a threat to national security. That is the nature of a police state, DO NOT question the authority figure or you will be hauled away to some secret cell room. Also this so called “law” about pulling your arm away when grabbed being assault on the agent doing the grabbing is complete insanity. Its human nature to pull away when someone grabs you in an aggressive way and this is being used strategically by “agents” to provoke and trigger this ridiculous charge. At the end when the Canadian man “stopped talking tough” this was not because he realized he was wrong (I don’t think he ever realized he was in dishonor and he could have remedied the situation a different way), this was because of fear (you could hear it in his voice) which again is a hallmark of a police state. Throughout history, when tyranny arrives, it ALWAYS arrives in a uniform and those in uniform are always “within their jurisdiction” when they commit crimes against humanity that history later looks upon with disgust. Its only just getting started here in the U.S. and the road this goes down NEVER turns out good.
